When I look for a file in Explorer and double click on it, it changes the
file by putting an .exe extension on the end. Example; I double click
"junk.xls" it will not open the file with Excel. It just changes it to
"junk.xls.exe". Any ideas what may cause this??
Thanks!

Sounds like a virus/spyware infestation to me.

Make certain your antivirus software is completely up to date with the
virus defintions not more than a week old, and do a full virus scan of
your hard drive. Then get a "second opinion" by doing a free online
virus scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Check for spyware and clean it up by following MVP Jim Eshelman's
Quick Fix procedure at http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

Good luck
